How To Dress Like A Bombshell For Your Wedding

Anyone else here crazy for AMC’s Mad Men?

Matthew Weiner’s Emmy award-winning take on 1960s life is pretty irresistible. When I heard the actresses who play the two leading ladies of the Sterling Cooper ad agency are both getting married this year, I started imagining what their alter egos Peggy and Joan would wear on their respective wedding days.

Christina Hendricks, who plays Marilyn Monroe-esque office bombshell Joan Holloway, is wearing a Carolina Herrera wedding dress for her October 2009 wedding. I’m sure her choice will be a timeless showstopper, but if Joan were to marry in 2009, what would she wear?

Joan’s bridal gown might look something like this Sarah Houston number: feminine, soft, with just the right amount of va-va-voom:

Elisabeth Moss, who plays the innocent and enigmatic secretary-turned-copywriter Peggy Olsen, chose a Claire Pettibone gown for her upcoming aisle walk. I’m sure it’ll look stunning, but Claire’s beaded and lacy bridal dresses don’t match Peggy’s style.

Peggy would wear something sweet and refined, but with a hint of drama to show the world she’s arrived. This organza gown from Monique Lhuillier might do the trick:

Looks like Anti-Bride author Carolyn Gerin’s been bitten by the retro bug, too. She’s asking designers to submit their best Mad Men-inspired wedding gear. The Anti-Bride blog’s got the details.
