My colleague Jan Brenner and I recently combined business with pleasure in Half Moon Bay. With its fun and artsy downtown, exhilarating coastal hikes, and water sports, Half Moon Bay is a day tripper’s delight and a wonderfully easy and rewarding wedding destination—just ask our very own Meredith, who wed her sweetheart on a Half Moon Bay beach!
This wasn’t our first trip here, but we fell in love with the seaside village all over again. Part of the reason was the Oceano Hotel & Spa, a brand new boutique luxury hotel overlooking the bustling marina. Everything about Oceano exceeded expectations (and our readers know how picky we are!), from the décor’s creamy marble elegance, to the personable staff, to the thoughtful amenities in the spacious guestrooms (Aveda bath products, super-soft towels, plush organic bamboo sheets—the stuff travelin’ dreams are made of!). Skylights and atriums let the sunshine in, creating an open, airy ambiance, and on top of all these assets Oceano is also one of the greenest hotels in the country. A special nod goes to Chef Bruce, who when not custom-designing menus for bridal couples or corporate hotshots, plies guests with food and beverages at the bar and lounge. (Psst, don’t be fooled by the word “lounge”—our meal there was better than many we’ve had at fancy restaurants. Chef Bruce knows food!)
Stay tuned for more Half Moon Bay dish, coming in Part Two of this blog …

Half Moon Bay was one of my family’s most common retreat: it’s beautiful, isolated yet not too isolated from the real world, quiet, and natural. Throw in a luxurious yet comfy hotel with my favorite beauty line, Aveda, and I’m sold. I’d never leave!
