You think planning your wedding is tough? Try doing it while your betrothed is in Iraq! ROTC nursing student Hilary Pasmore hoped to be stationed with her soon-to-be-husband, U.S. Army 1st Lt. Richard Javier, when she graduated in a few months, but army requirements made the timing of their wedding tricky: To get her desired posting, she had to still be in school when she wed. Communication between California and Iraq was sporadic, but Hilary learned his leave was just a month away…not much time to pull together anything but the most basic of weddings. Funds were scarce, too.
Meanwhile, Ventura County event planner, fundraiser and all-round nice guy Rod Houck of Rod Houck Presents had teamed up with a local radio station to create a fairy-tale wedding giveaway. The idea was to debut his newest wedding location, Eucalyptus Lane, while at the same time doing a good deed for a deserving couple… which turned out to be Hilary and Richard! “I was really happy when they won,” confides Houck. “They seemed so deserving and appreciative.”
The Javiers’ celebration included a lavish reception at Eucalyptus Lane—a private, tree-lined Ventura estate with romantic gardens, sun-dappled meadows and elegantly rustic barn. Houck also arranged for the donation of an array of stylish services—including a reception dinner catered by Jason Colis of Jonathan’s at Peiranos, and a Las Vegas honeymoon courtesy of radio 105.5 FM.
While praising Rod Houck and his team of wedding angels, Hilary Javier said: “Each one put a little bit of themselves into this day…I could not have asked for a better dream come true!”
