The Romance of the Napa Valley Wine Train

Anyone who’s ever watched the movie Murder on the Orient Express has some idea of just how elegant and pampering a train ride can be. I’ve certainly had no trouble picturing myself as, say, a mysterious countess traveling from Istanbul to Paris in the lap of luxury, my every need attended to…

articles_altAlas, opportunities to indulge my fantasy were non-existent until recently, when I boarded the Napa Valley Wine Train. Granted, I wasn’t traversing the entire continent of Europe (and, truth be told, I’m no countess), but the 3-hour journey through the Wine Country was a pure delight.

Seated in our plush, antique train car, my dining companion and I ate our way through a leisurely and surprisingly delicious dinner (who would have thought they could even cook on a train, let alone whip up truly great dishes). And just like on the Orient Express, accommodating waiters did indeed cater to my every need (water without ice please…and yes, a strawberry in my bubbly would be ever so nice…) Two glasses of champagne and the gentle rhythm of the train contributed to my increasingly mellow state of mind, as did the soothing view: the sun setting slowly over the vineyards.

Napa Valley Wine TrainTurns out this historic train is not only terrific for a hot night out with your fiancé, boyfriend, husband, or that bad boy you just met, it’s also a stellar place for a wedding reception. Your family and friends will be intrigued by the novel setting, and will doubtless put your celebration at the top of their “Favorite Weddings” list.

And guys take note: if you’re looking for an out-of-the-ordinary place to pop the question, I suggest the last car of the Napa Valley Wine Train. It has a sweet little outdoor platform where you can propose while rolling through the Wine Country. Now that’s romantic!

I have had many Brides and Grooms take both sets of parents on this train so they could get to know each other while enjoying a nice outing together. If they have nothing in common, at least they’ll enjoy the food and great scenery!
And who knows, maybe the Moms and Dads will be so impressed, they’ll just go ahead and book the train for your wedding!

Thanks for sharing your experience through the Wine Train.Particularly I like your idea to use it as a place of wedding reception. Yeah.. that could be a unique setting.
