Red Tie Affair

There are several occasions that may call for a red evening gown. 1) You’re a bride who wants to say her vows while wearing a wedding dress in the traditional Chinese color of good luck; 2) you are being squired to a fabulous Valentine’s Day soiree; 3) You are attending the Red Tie Affair, the March 15 gala to benefit the American Red Cross of Santa Monica.
Dress code at this sizzling event is red tie for men, and red gowns for women. And Hanna Hartnell, wedding dress and formal-wear fashion designer extraordinaire, has cooked up six red-hot gowns to fit the bill. Her special collection of attention-grabbing hues range from a deep rose to rich merlot. Hartnell, who is working with the Red Cross to help make the event a big success, is also donating a $3000 gown for their live auction. This chic number will be modeled by Jane Stuart, the beautiful model/actress from Scotland who is married to actor Kevin Dillon of HBO’s hit show Entourage. Stuart also donned a Hartnell original when she recently accompanied Dillon to the SAG Awards (pictured here). The slinky silk charemeuse gown is called “La Femme” (and several gals on an entertainment chat room I visited dubbed it “so cute!”)
Of course, savvy Here Comes The Guide brides already know that Hartnell designs can be made-to-order in virtually any color, from creamy white for the walk down the aisle to chocolate brown for your bridesmaids. Silver and even black are popular choices for Mother of the Bride or Groom, who want to look elegant but not outshine the bride. (In other words, don’t let Mom order one of Hartnell’s flame-red dresses for your wedding!)
