Ode to Restaurant Week

If I could kiss the genius who invented Restaurant Week, I would (Apologies to my husband, but he loves fancy schmancy meals too so he’d probably look the other way). When cash is tight, it’s hard to justify the luxury of a three-course meal at a top restaurant, but Restaurant Week solves that problem. Participating restaurants offer a prix fixe (that’s “one price fits all” in classy-speak) 3-course meal at amazing restaurants for a very slimmed-down price. Restaurant weeks happen in many big metropolitan areas, and this week, it’s happening in San Diego and Los Angeles. San Francisco’s Dine About Town is currently in its second week, so if you haven’t already made your reservations, get to it!
Wedding Planning Tip: if you’re still hemming and hawing about where to have your rehearsal dinner , Restaurant Week’s a great way to test drive your faves without breaking the bank!
San Diego has several participating restaurants that we can personally recommend: The Prado at Balboa Park, Hornblower Cruises, Mediterranean Room at La Valencia, Adobe el Ristorante at Estancia La Jolla, and The Restaurant at Rancho Valencia Resort should get you started. Several of Patina Group’s Los Angeles and Orange County restaurants are participating in Los Angeles Restaurant week, but Cafe Pinot is our hands-down fave.
In San Francisco, check out the always-wonderful Palio d’Asti, Grand Cafe at the Hotel Monaco, Hornblower Cruises & Events, or 750 at the Hilton San Francisco Financial District.

Dear Lisa;
Great idea, never knew about this. I’d just been looking for a nice (but not nosebleed expensive) place to take my darling husband for his birthday this weekend, thanks for the tips! ali
Wow, so many great choices for February 14! If you like dinner with a view, check out the Valentine’s Day menu at Sky Room in Long Beach. Or have a great meal with a sizzling Gypsy Flamenco show at Cafe de la Paz in Berkeley…
So Hornblower Cruises is actually a restaurant?

One more thing: in case you haven’t noticed, Valentine’s Day will be here sooner than you think! We’ve been raving about the romantic ambiance at Lark Creek Inn and Sam’s Chowder House for a while now. Good to know Zagat agrees…
