Planning your dream wedding on a very real budget? You’re not alone. Cutting back on the pricey parts of your wedding is never easy, but if you have even an ounce of “do-it-yourself” spirit, you might find some of the tasks you had planned to pass off to a pro are kind of fun to DIY.

Case in point: the flowers. While we think no one can take the place of one of our Certified By The Guide floral designers, you may find that someone you know and love may indeed have to take a pro’s place: your mother or sister, perhaps. But before you send Mom to the flower market with a handful of color swatches and good intentions, she may need a little professional guidance.

Patricia Gibbons, Floral DesignerWith that goal in mind, East Bay floral designer Patricia Gibbons is holding a Design Your Own Wedding Flowers workshop. The March 22nd event will demonstrate how to create bouquets, corsages, and boutonnieres. You’ll learn lots of helpful tips on how to keep the flowers fresh and beautiful, and how to properly use color to make your flowers look amazing.

Need more help? Patricia’s also planning another workshop that will focus on reception flowers, with tips for saving money on your centerpieces. Just email or call Patricia to register and find out the where and when.

Wedding Workshop: Design Your Own Wedding Flowers

Lisa, i some how dont fully agree with you! see, it is easy to say that to cut down expenses, you should organize the wedding yourself, but it really creates a panick! at the last moment instead of enjoying the marriage you are more concentrating on something which is really not needed, i am no wedding planner, but i fact i tried this at my own wedding, and trust me it was a disaster!

Doing it yourself can save a lot of money on your wedding but you do have to plan and organize.

Make sure that you can find the proper materials needed (quality flowers and floral supplies) at a reasonable price in order to really create that savings you’re looking for.

There is certainly a lot of web sources, books and free videos out there on how to create simple, but beautiful floral creations for your wedding day.

Re-Useable wedding dress? Are you kidding me? A Wedding is supposed to last a lifetime.

That seems like an awful lot of money for a workshop teaching you how to design flowers for a singular event. Why not take that money and just put it towards actual flowers?

iI think DIY is a great way to save when planning on a budget. The problem i find when reading about most brides is they have no idea of time management and arent very creative. you need to have both if you want to save money and have whatever it is your making/doing, turn out beautiful, all the while saving money and stress. If you dont have those skills, then i would suggest paying somthe professional.

I’m no wedding planner but I’m in the process of planning my wedding and utilizing my own DIY skills to create my own Save the Date Cards, Invitations, Centerpieces. Even though most would say im quite the DIY person, I cannot for the life of me create a flower bouquet so i leave this to the experts, however to save money… i have my own thoughts and ideas of what i can invision that i’ll pass on to the florist to create for me. One idea i offered to a girlfriend of mine getting married was to utilize the ceremony decorations and turn them into a completely different centerpiece in less than 2 minutes each for the dinner tables. Thus- saving money on additional flowers. You just have to be a creative person. If you arent, it can turn into a real disaster so it’s better to pay the professionals while you maintain as stress free as possible.
