Add a Little Voodoo to Your Wedding…

Even though I’m usually a total foodie, I have a not-so-secret addiction to doughnuts. I have doughnut magnets on my fridge. I call my cat “Alice Donut” as a nickname. I know every doughnut shop within a five mile radius of my apartment.
It’s only natural, then, that I would eventually find Voodoo Doughnuts. In addition to offering treats suitable for a bachelorette party, this Portland, Oregon institution is also a quirky wedding venue. A “coffee and doughnuts reception” sounds like music to my ears. If anyone is planning a destination wedding at Voodoo, send us pictures (and send me a Portland Cream doughnut!).
Happy Halloween, everyone!

I love doughnuts a lot. As you say, a coffee with doughnuts reception is what I would love to attend. They are very tasty. But they are not liked by all.

My fiance and I are getting married at Voodoo Doughnuts in September! We are beyond excited about being wed beneath the Holy Doughnut and a velvet painting of Kenny Rogers. What better way to kick off a new life together than to be blessed by The Gambler? I’m not sure there is one. Now we just need to figure out the invitations…

How fun, Megan! I hope you’ll give us details (and maybe a picture or two!) after the wedding.
I’m sure that finding the right invitations for a Voodoo Doughnut wedding is hard—if only Voodoo would let you send a box of doughnuts to your guests with the details (but that would damage the integrity of the doughnut, according to them!) Maybe you could send doughnut magnets for the fridge along with your invites?
Great idea, Lisa, thank you! We are considering that as one option. We have been thinking about sending the invitation in a small pink box, since Voodoo says “good things come in pink boxes”, maybe with some skeleton confetti (if I can find some) and the donut magnets. Or possibly the far more pedestrian doughnut-shaped invitation. We need to figure it out soon though as the wedding is only just over 6 months away. I will be sure to post pictures, too. You’ll recognize me; I’ll be the one in the birdcage veil mowing down the doughnut centerpiece.
Holey donuts, Lisa (pun intended)! Looking at the website for Voodoo Donut Wedding Cakes, I find myself laughing inside as I roll my eyes across every single yummy circle of sugary goodness. Did you see the bacon strips on the maple bars? It’s on their menu page. I don’t think I can stretch it to that point!

Magnets make a great Invitation/Save The Date mailer. You can have just about anything printed on them. Great for Engagement Photos too
Well, we did it! We got married at Voodoo Too on 9/9/09 and it was so much fun! Everyone who attended said it was by far the coolest wedding they had ever been to. Besides being so much fun, the doughnuts were fantastic! Anybody who is up for a non-traditional, tongue-in-cheek wedding should do this.
Congrats, Mrs. L! How did you end up doing your invitations for the Voodoo Doughnut Wedding?
I love doughnuts but they say they are soooo terrible for your health. WHY
Thank you, Lisa! I ended up designing and making my own invitations that were semi-traditional in appearance, but with our own subversive twist on the verbiage. I hand stamped many elements of them as well as lining the RSVP envelopes by hand. A feat only possible with a short guest list! They were a huge hit with everyone-many of the guests were still talking about them at the wedding! I’m in the process of making the thank you cards now and hope they will be as well-received.

I keep telling my fiance that we need to have an inexpensive wedding due to the economy, but I had no idea Voodoo was offering the perfect solution! I wonder if they’ll have the NyQuil doughnuts available for receptions…
