Trunk Shows

If you have not yet been to a Trunk Show, you may not know what you’re missing. Where else can you have a fashion face-to-face with the likes of Amy Michelson or Monique Lhuillier?

articles_altDuring wedding season (like, now!) there are more opportunities than ever to meet with designers or their skilled representatives for your personal wedding gown consultation. At a Trunk Show, designers bring their entire current collection to a salon…in trunks! During your private appointment, you’ll get valuable suggestions, and possibly even custom design changes to the wedding gowns. Salons often provide price incentives on wedding dresses purchased during the Trunk Show. Wedding accessories, veils and headpieces also have their own Trunk Shows, so even if you already have your wedding dress, there’s always room for a tiara or bracelet in your closet!

Here Comes The Guide’s exclusive salon partners invite you to attend their Trunk Shows & Special Sales, listed here.

Green Wedding Tips

I love being asked for my opinion—even if the only topic for which my input is being sought is weddings! Recently I was interviewed by journalist Rachel Trachten for The Monthly, which bills itself as “the East Bay’s Premier Magazine of Culture and Commerce.” (Okay, I’m impressed.)

articles_altSo was Rachel, it seems, at least a little. She’d read my article “It’s A Nice Day for a Green Wedding” in our Articles+Ideas section. Did I have anything else to say on the subject? Indeed I did! Rachel and I blabbed about everything from eco-economics to recycled wedding dresses. To my delight, Rachel included a few of my pearls of wisdom in her fun and informative feature.

Rachel also zeroed in on several of our Certified By The Guide vendors, like floral artist Pat Gibbons and cake designer Edith Meyer. She even got a chance to talk to our pal Margie Richardson at the fabulous U.C. Berkeley Botanical Garden.

For Greenie inspiration, read Rachel Trachen’s article on how to design an earth-friendly wedding.

Kitchen On Fire Offers a Twist on Rehearsal Dinners

We’re always trying to bring you different ways to do your rehearsal dinner. The standard RD is just fine, but if you can kick it up a notch, why not? That’s what we say.

For San Francisco Bay Area brides, have we got an idea for you: how about a rehearsal dinner celebrated with the folks at Kitchen on Fire in Berkeley? You bring your guests, KoF provides the ingredients, kitchen facilities and tools and you and your fam cook your meal together before sitting down to eat. KoF’s professional chefs are on hand the whole time to provide guidance and support if needed. All the preparations are taken care of by KoF and the group can enjoy a completely private dinner (unlike simply reserving a table at a restaurant). You are also welcome to customize a menu that would be meaningful to you and your family (like an Italian-themed meal before the honeymoon in Rome.)articles_alt

Or, you could break your group up into teams and have an “Iron Chef”-like competition. Now that would be fun.

Kitchen on Fire host events at their kitchen in Berkeley, or in the privacy of someone’s home and in venues throughout the Bay Area, so you’ve got tons of options if you love this idea.

What a great way to get to spend some quality time with the people you love most.
